A social event open to local Goreans and friends located in southern Ontario. Sponsored by the Ontario Gorean Gathering and Assembly.

Draft will take place on Friday September 29th 2017 at Morty’s Pub, King Street North, Waterloo, Ontario.
1. OBJECTIVE
To assemble a lineup of National Hockey League players with a budget of $250 and compete in rotisserie style.
2. TEAMS
There are 10 to 12 teams. Any adjustment to the total teams will require a league vote, with 80% in favour to change.
3. ROSTERS
A team’s active roster consists of the following players:
4 Centres
4 Right Wingers
4 Left Wingers
6 Defencemen
1 Utility Position
2 Goalies
5 Bench Positions
2 Injured Reserve/Day to Day (IR+)
Rosters are set daily, with each player locked 1 minute before their game time. Roster pickups effective for the next day.
4. PRIZE MONEY
Regular Season 1st place: 60%
Regular Season 2nd place: 25%
Regular Season 3rd place: 15%
The prize money comes from the fees, which are described below.
5. STANDINGS/SCORING/PLAYOFFS
There are 13 categories:
Goals (G)
Assists (A)
Plus/Minus (+/-)
Special Teams Points (Powerplay and Shorthanded combined)
Hits (HIT)
Blocks (BLK)
Shots on goal (SOG)
Takeaways (TK)
Net Faceoff Wins (NFW?)
Goalie Wins
Goals Against Average (GAA)
Save Percentage (SV%)
Saves
The first place team in any category, at the end of the season, gets ten points (in a ten team league. First place would get 11 points in an eleven team league.), second place gets nine points, third place gets eight points, and so on down to last place getting one point. If there is a tie in standings at the end of the season, the tiebreaker will be whoever leads in more categories between the two tied teams.
A team can only roster a position 82 X the number spots at that position, plus two extra games. For example, with four centre spots, a team can play on their active roster 336 games at centre. For six defensive spots, a team can play a maximum of 502 games at defense.
6. FEES/PAYMENT SCHEDULE
All owners shall be required to make a payment of $31 ($20 entry plus $11 for fantrax premium) on the day of the draft.
FREE AGENT PICKUPS: No maximum per season. No real dollar cost. Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB) of $100 spent through daily blind bidding. Minimum $1 per pickup bid. The highest bid shall win the Free Agent claim. A tie will go to the lowest team in the standings at that bid.
ROSTER MOVEMENT: Player movement from the active roster to the bench and vice versa does not incur a cost and there is no limit to the number of moves, beyond the maximum season limit for that position.
7. AUCTION DRAFT DAY
An auction is conducted on a mutually agreed upon date at a mutually agreed upon time and place. Ideally, it will be a couple weeks before the season starts, on a weekend, and in any event will be no later than the first Sunday after the season starts. Each team must acquire 26 players, at a total cost not to exceed $250. Owners need not spend all their funds, however, they must fill a 26 player roster.
Nomination order is randomly determined the first year, with the following years as follows: Fifth place finish will nominate first the next season, followed by sixth down to last, then followed by third, second and first place will nominate last. The nominating owner is required to give a player’s first and last name, team, position and the dollar amount he wishes to offer for that player. The minimum incremental increase is $1, and the minimum first bid is $1.
You may not pass your turn to throw out a player for bid. If a team does not nominate in the allotted time, an auto nomination will be created by the website.
Owners may only bid to a maximum of their budget dollars left plus 1, minus the number of open spots on their roster. For example if an owner has $15 left for 7 spots, he may only bid $9 on any particular player (15 plus 1 minus 7 equals 9).
9. ROSTER PROTECTION
A team may keep no more than 12 players on its keeper roster going into Auction Draft DayRoster keeper deadline is typically noon, 14 days before the league draft date, but may change with notice and agreement. The Fantrax website has a Keeper Admin page which allows managers to indicate their keeper selections. The website will release all non-kept players after the keeper deadline. Keeper choices may be changed at any point before the keeper deadline.
The roster keeper list must specify any long-term contracts that you choose to sign.
The cumulative salaries of your keeper roster are deducted from your $250 auction budget, and that total is used to purchase players during the draft to fill your 26-man active roster.
10. CONTRACTS
Players bought at auction, acquired off waivers or free agents all start as “A” contracts, meaning first year contracts. Contracts age each year, such that a player purchased in 2015-2016, is a B contract in 2016-2017 and C contract in 2017-2018, absent any long term signing. Contracts continue to age and are not restarted as a result of a trade.
Players completing their C year cannot be kept the following year unless they were given an extension contract before their C year began. Extension contracts can only be made for players entering their C year, and are discussed below.
Players acquired through free agency after the trade deadline are automatically C players and cannot be kept.
11. PLAYERS’ SALARIES
The salary of a player acquired in the auction draft is his auction price.
The salary of a player claimed through free agency before the trade deadline will be $10 or his pre-waived salary, whichever is higher, and his contract status will be his first year (A). Players acquired after the trade deadline cannot be kept for the following year.
The salary of a player does not change unless the player becomes a free agent or is signed to an extension contract.
12. THE OPTION YEAR & CONTRACT EXTENSIONS
A player at the beginning of his “C” contract year must be released, signed at the same salary for his option year “C”, or signed to an extension contract.
If released, the player returns to the free agent pool and becomes available to the highest bidder at the next auction draft. If signed at the same salary for an option year C, the player must be released back into the free agent pool at the end of that season. If signed to an extension contract, the player’s salary in each year covered by the new contract (which commences with the option year) shall be the sum of his current salary plus $5 for each additional year beyond the option year.
As an example, a player is purchased at auction in 2015 for $2. 2016 is his B season. In 2017, he may be released, kept at $2 for a final year ($2C), signed for 2017 and 2018 for $7 each year ($7C and $7D), or signed for 2017, 2018 and 2019 for $12 each year ($12C, $12D and $12E). Two year contract extensions are the limit.
In determining a player’s status, “season” is understood to be a full season or any fraction thereof. Option-year and extension contracts are entirely transferable; the trade of a player in no way affects his contract status.
A player may be released in-season at any time. Extension contracts are not obligations, they are not guaranteed and can be terminated/released.
Players cannot be signed to consecutive extension contracts. After the first extension contract the player must be released into the free agent pool.
13. TRADES
From the completion of the draft, until 11 pm on January 31st, teams are free to make trades of any kind without limit, as long as they don’t violate the Anti-Dumping Rule.
After January 31st, until two days after the real NHL trade deadline, only balanced “star player” trades may be made (see Article 14). A “star player” is defined as any player with a contract of $10 or more in his expiration year, or with a salary of $15 or more regardless of contract year.
No trades of any kind may be made between three days after the real NHL trade deadline and the end of the season.
Trades can be made without limit between the last day of the NHL regular season and the roster freeze deadline.
Auction dollars cannot be traded, and no trades can be made involving either future considerations or a player to be named later.
Owners are under a positive obligation to reveal injuries in any circumstance where the player has not played since the injury or the injury has occurred in the past two weeks. If an injured player is traded and his injury was not known to either of the owners, the trade may be reversed by the team receiving the injured player.
14. ANTI-DUMPING
Players in the last year of a contract of $10 or more, or with a salary of $15 or more regardless of contract year are “star players”. Such players may be traded during the regular season only under the following conditions.
One team may trade “star players” to another team provided that an equal number of star players are traded away and received. This is called a balanced trade. These types of trades are permitted until the main trading deadline (two days after the real NHL trading deadline).
An earlier trading deadline (January 31st at 11pm) will be set for “unbalanced” trades. A team may trade with another team where they give a star and don’t receive one in return. They may do this three times during the season and only once with any particular owner. Trades such as 2/1, 3/2, 4/3 stars are also unbalanced trades, and the same limitation applies. Unbalanced trades can only include one excess star on either side of the deal.
For further clarity, a team can do three trades where it is the dumper and three trades where it is the dumpee.
The goal of this rule is to avoid having one “dumping” manager unload all of their stars onto just one or two other teams, which would significantly tilt the competitive balance of that season.
The reason for this trading rule is to create scenarios in which teams competing for the current year trade away quality “keepers” (players with valuable contracts for future years) for quality current year players whose future value may be low or non-existent.
***It is not a rule, but a best case for the health of the league that teams shop around before making trades, particularly dumping trades. It is the best way to achieve the most competitive pool and gives everyone a chance to make their best offer for the players available in trade.***
15. WAIVERS
All free agent players are on waivers, which are processed nightly at 11:59pm Pacific Time. We have $100 Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB) to spend on players through daily blind bidding throughout the season. There is no limit on the number of pickups or drops in a season.
All players dropped from a team’s roster are immediately placed on waivers. During this two day waiver period anyone in the league can put in a claim bid except the manager who dropped the player.
So, if a player is dropped on a Wednesday afternoon, all managers can put in a claim bid until Friday at 11:59 p.m. PT. The player is then assigned to their new team roughly 4-8 hours after the claim deadline (whenever fantrax processes it).
If more than one team claims the same player, the team that made the highest bid is given the rights to the player. Ties are decided by reverse order of the current standings. Lower standing team wins.
If you place a claim on more than one waived player at a time, each pending transaction appears on your Team Page along with its current position in your waiver order. All new claims get appended to the end of the list, but you can alter this priority by viewing each pending claim and changing its priority in the box provided.
16. Injured Reserve
There are two Injured Reserve spots for each team. For regular free agency, a player must be dropped for every player added, so that the 26 player roster is not violated. If injured, a player can be placed on IR, and a free agent can be acquired to replace, without dropping a player. In effect, IR spots free up a roster spot. Once on the IR+, a player can stay there for the entire season, even if he returns to real-life action. Suspended players are eligible for IR+.
17. GOVERNANCE
The NHL Fantasy Pool has a Commissioner. In the event of any dispute, the Complainant should submit their complaint in writing to the Commissioner, who then must ask any other party directly involved in the dispute to put in their submissions. A ruling is made based on the facts and this Constitution. This ruling is not subject to appeal.
All league-related transactions will be executed with the intent of improving the owner’s team and its standing within the league.
No owner may drop or “dump” players from their team for any reason other than improving their own team or its standing within the league.
No owner will engage in any action that might be deemed to be collusive (two or more owners agreeing to make moves that benefit one team, but not the other).
No owner will take any action whose purpose is to, in any way, interfere with fair play in a league.
Any owner who requests a rule clarification can get one from the Commissioner at any time. The Commissioner will make a ruling and distribute it to all owners.
Any ruling is in effect from the time it is made until the subsequent draft day. At the subsequent draft day the principles of the ruling can be incorporated into the Constitution as is or amended or not at all, pursuant to a vote. All votes require 6 teams in favour to pass.
Any proposed rule changes should also be raised at Draft Day and require 6 teams in favour to pass.
A proposal to change the Commissioner should also be raised on draft day, and requires 7 teams in favour to pass. A Commissioner vote will take place every 3 seasons to determine the ongoing Commissioner.
